The Position: The Administrative Assistant will provide the overall administrative services for the Faculty of Education and the Research & Academic Excellence Division. The successful candidate will embrace the challenge of working in an academic environment, and the position will include a wide range of duties including administrative, financial, secretarial, and clerical tasks. The Administrative Assistant will interact with peers and other colleagues at all levels and in all Divisions within UCN, as well as with external agencies including other post-secondary institutions, Indigenous organizations and government agencies to ensure the effective implementation and processing of all administrative issues.
Administrative Assistant or Business Administration Diploma is preferred
Appropriate combinations of related experience and education may be considered

Excellent organizational skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Effective communication skills
Strong computer skills (MS Office)
Typing skills of 50 wpm
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
Demonstrated initiative, ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to meet deadlines
Experience with records management and file administration
Demonstrated ability to understand and to deal with issues specific to Indigenous learners and mature students in northern communities
Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures
The ability to speak an Aboriginal language
Able to develop, utilize, and maintain databases
Conditions of Employment:
