Carpentry Instructor

Full-Time Term Position: September 4, 2018 to June 28, 2019
Cranberry Portage, Manitoba

The Position: UCN requires an instructor to teach into the dual credit Carpentry Program at Frontier Collegiate in Cranberry Portage. In addition to teaching duties, the instructor will be responsible for classroom management, student supervision, tutoring and advising, maintenance of student records and grades plus maintenance of applicable inventory. This term in dependent on on-going funding from Frontier School Division which is determined on a yearly basis.

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Journeyperson Certification in carpentry (proof required)
  • Experience in the trade after attainment of the Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills with a familiarity with MS Office
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and to deal with issues specific to Aboriginal learners and mature students in northern communities
  • Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures

Assets:

  • The ability to speak an Aboriginal language
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Current industry standard safety certificates
  • Certificate in Adult Education

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check

Salary Range: $31.40 to $46.64 hourly, plus remoteness allowance
