The Organization

The Saugeen First Nation (Chippewas of Saugeen) have a rich history and traditional territory located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Huron at the base of the Bruce Peninsula. Today there are more than 1,850 Saugeen First Nation members, of whom approximately 900 reside on-reserve. The community is located 18 miles west of Owen Sound and is two to three hours from major centres such as Toronto, Barrie, Kitchener, London and Sarnia.

With a vision of self-sufficiency and prosperity, the Saugeen First Nation has recently established a wholly owned business corporation, the Chippewas of Saugeen Community General Partner Inc. (CSCGP) The corporation seeks to enhance their business operations in various sectors including tourism, energy, construction, natural resources, etc.

Headquartered in Saugeen First Nation and complimented by an office in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), CSCGP’s Board of Directors are seeking a seasoned entrepreneur and leader with a track record of success in business and industry for the newly-established role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Candidate

They will be a visionary Chief Executive Officer with exceptional strategic and relationship management skills, and an in-depth appreciation for the mission and the values of CSCGP. The CEO will be a respected and seasoned business leader who has built, turned-around and sold small to large business entities or investments across a wide range of industries including the tourism and/or energy sector. This role will appeal to those with a passion for developing new business and investment opportunities while providing leadership and strategic direction to ensure the profitability and sustainability of existing business units and companies.

Possessing a post-secondary education in business or related field, preferably a MBA, with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading business development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, the CEO will also possess the following key qualifications:

  • Strong experience preparing and analyzing business plans, financial forecasts, feasibility studies, etc. for presentation to boards of directors, potential business partners, government officials and lending institutions:
  • Proven track record developing communications and marketing plans as well as negotiating complex agreements and contracts;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in exporting and conducting business locally, nationally and/or internationally;
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, human resource management, strategic planning, financial, administrative, policy development and risk management abilities;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences;
  • The ability to formulate and execute major policies, programs and objectives to promote and ensure accountability, transparency and an organization’s sustainability and profitability;
  • Willingness to work sometimes long or irregular hours, travel internationally as required and relocate to the
  • Owen Sound and/or the Greater Toronto Area (GTA); and
  • Experience working with First Nations.
