On behalf of our client, Sagkeeng Anicinabe, we are currently recruiting a Controller to join their team at the Sagkeeng Anicinabe Government Office in Fort Alexander, Manitoba, 120 KM north of Winnipeg. Sagkeeng has a band membership of over 7,600 people with over 3,300 living on reserve. Sagkeeng Anicinabe Government Office provides many social and economic services to its community.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for day-to-day financial management and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting, and financial analysis. We are seeking an individual who has strengths in attention to detail, organization, multitasking, and working with financial information to ensure successful performance. This financial role will appeal to a professional with excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.


  • Perform month end closing procedures on assigned financial statement items
  • Prepare various financial reconciliations and remittances
  • Assist with preparation of monthly internal and external financial reporting packages
  • Ensure financial reporting and procedural compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations
  • Assist in development, maintenance of effective financial operations / systems / procedures
  • Assist in preparation, development, and monitoring of key performance indicators for operational and corporate overview
  • Work closely with and supervise all members of accounting team on process, accuracy, and efficiency improvements of accounting processes
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are kept current and are adhered to

Skills & Qualifications:

  • University degree or college diploma or equivalent experience with concentration in accounting and finance
  • Completion of recognized accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience
  • Able to work independently and work effectively in a team environment
  • Well-developed communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, and able to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and administrative skills with extensive experience with Microsoft Office Software
  • Knowledge and understanding of the cultural environment in which Sagkeeng operates
  • Knowledge and experience in a First Nations organization
  • Must be willing to commute to Sagkeeng Anicinabe (some flexibility provided in travel time)
  • Preference will be given to Sagkeeng Anicinabe Band Members
