2017 Spring Reports of the Auditor General of Canada to the Parliament of Canada

by pmnationtalk on May 16, 201736 Views

Ottawa, 16 May 2017—In his 2017 Spring Reports tabled today in Parliament, the Auditor General of Canada, Michael Ferguson, presents the results of seven audits completed by his Office since last winter. Copies of the reports of the special examinations of the Canadian Museum of Nature, Defence Construction Canada, and the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation are also included in the package of 2017 Spring Reports.

This most recent round of audits focused on customs duties, how selected government organizations were managing the risk of fraud, the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, civil aviation infrastructure in the North, mental health support for members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, preventing corruption in immigration and border services, and fossil fuel subsidies.

In a message prefacing his 2017 Spring Reports, Mr. Ferguson informed Parliament that the Department of Finance Canada did not provide his Office with information required to complete the audits of customs duties and fossil fuel subsidies. However the government has recently taken some steps to better instruct departments about their responsibility to provide information to the Auditor General.

With his 2017 Spring Reports, the Auditor General is also introducing a new product derived from his Office’s work on financial statement audits. This new product provides insight into the scope and complexity of the financial audits the Office performs each year, as well as commentary on any issues of note.

The Auditor General of Canada will be holding a news conference at the National Press Theatre in Ottawa at 11:30 a.m. and will be available for interviews after 1 p.m.
