Manitobans Encouraged to Share Ideas: Fielding

Manitobans are encouraged to share their ideas and participate in public discussions to help shape the 2020-21 provincial budget, Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced today.

“We want to hear what issues are important to Manitobans to help us set our priorities as we prepare our next budget,” said Fielding. “We are developing a plan that will put more money back on the table for Manitobans and continue to make life more affordable for all residents, while at the same time strengthening public services, health care and education and driving economic development.”

Public budget consultations will take place from late November 2019 to February 2020. Fielding announced the first three locations:

  • Monday, Nov. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Riverbank Discovery Centre, #1-545 Conservation Dr., Brandon.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Golden Boy Dining Room, Legislative Building, 450 Broadway, Winnipeg. This session will be bilingual and fully accessible. Accessibility requests can be made to budget2020@gov.mb.ca.
  • Monday, Dec. 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the New Iceland Heritage Museum, 108-94 1st Ave., Gimli.

The minister will host a session for municipal leaders and delegates at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities’ annual convention on Nov. 26 at 1:40 p.m. at the Keystone Centre in Brandon.

In January 2020, the province is planning sessions in Altona, Dauphin, Flin Flon, Gillam and Thompson, as well as in north, southeast and west Winnipeg. It will reach thousands of Manitobans through telephone town halls and the minister also plans to consult with frontline government workers as part of budget consultations.

Manitobans are also invited to submit written feedback to:

The province will release its full public consultation schedule in the weeks ahead, along with an online survey at www.manitoba.ca.
