OTTAWA – January 22, 2016 – The Canadian Human Rights Commission has learned that the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal will issue a decision next Tuesday, January 26, in a case that affects the welfare of thousands of First Nations children and families living on reserves.

At issue in this case is whether the Government of Canada is discriminating against First Nations children and families by inadequately funding child welfare services delivered on reserves as compared to the funding provided by provincial and territorial governments off reserve.

The Commission led extensive evidence and made arguments in the public interest during the 70 days of hearings in First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada et al. v. Attorney General of Canada.
