In today’s daily update, MMF President and Minister of Economic Development David Chartrand provides an update on what the Manitoba Metis Government is doing in helping its people exit COVID (HOPE).

Highlights:

  • Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) through Louis Riel Capital Corporation. $8.9-10 million allocated in CEBA for Metis Businesses.  CEBA gives businesses access to a interest free loan for up t0 $40,000 with 25% of the loan will be forgivable if repaid by December 31, 2022;
  • MMF Métis Economic Development Fund can provide an equity loan;
  • LRCC New Program in development: MMF Small Base Business Program will provide up to $25,000 with 4-year repayable. It focuses on smaller sector businesses, artisans, youth, and commercial fishers.  Official announcement will be coming soon;
  • Metis Economic Development Organization (MEDO) operates the MEDOCare Pharmacy. The second MEDOCare pharmacy planned for Dauphin, MB.  Money from the MEDOCare Pharmacy is reinvested in the community. President Chartrand encourages all citizens to use the pharmacy;
  • MEDO invested in a Golf Course in St. Laurent, MB.  Currently building a new clubhouse with a full restaurant and lounge;
  • First MMF Senior Housing is now being built in St. Laurent.  The Senior Housing will have the lowest rent;
  • MEDO currently looking to develop a 50-200 lot trailer campground in St. Laurent;
  • MMF and MEDO are investing in many buildings, businesses, and sectors;
  • However, Hydro won’t connect to the new homes or the golf course because of the layoffs.`
