Three people are dead after three separate weekend accidents on Edmonton’s streets.

Police say a 30-year-old man died Saturday following a single-vehicle accident that happened after he had fled a hit-and-run scene.

Then on Sunday, motorcycle accidents about two hours apart killed a man and a woman.

The woman was a passenger on a bike that slammed into a car.

A woman in western Manitoba is dead after police say she got out of a moving pickup truck and was hit by a trailer being towed by the vehicle.

The death happened early yesterday morning on Highway 10 near Mafeking.

The woman — a 35-year-old resident of the Swan River First Nation — died at the scene.

A 46-year-old man from Birch River is facing two charges, including impaired driving causing death. (CTV Wpg)

(CRIME-Crash-Kills-Teens) (EDS: watch for dating)

A sentence is expected today in the case of a Winnipeg truck driver who was involved in a Saskatchewan highway crash that killed three teenage boys.

Normand Lavoie pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm for the chain reaction collision two years ago in a construction zone near Spalding.

The defence has previously asked for a sentence of no more than 16 to 25 months in jail.

A Winnipeg police officer who was wounded when his service pistol went off in his holster has been released from hospital.

The officer was critically injured when his gun accidentally discharged on August 7th.

Police say the constable is facing lengthy rehabilitation but is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the malfunction, but officials say the officer did not have his hand on the firearm or the holster. (CTV Wpg)

(Alta-Wildfire-Air-Quality)

A wildfire that continues to move closer to a national park in southwestern Alberta has sparked yet another air quality advisory for southern regions of the province.

The latest statement from Environment Canada – issued yesterday afternoon — covers several areas in and around Waterton and Pincher Creek due to a fire threatening Waterton Lakes National Park.

The weather agency says a persistent weather pattern will result in very little improvement in conditions over the next few days.

Alberta Health Services is also asking people to refrain from visiting the Cardston and Pincher Creek Health Centres because of smoke entering the buildings when doors are opened. (Global Cgy)
