Province Announces Appointments Made to Centre culturel franco-manitobain Board of Directors

Four new members and two returning members have been appointed to the board of the Centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM), Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox announced today.

“Manitoba has a strong and vibrant francophone community, and the CCFM has an important role in showcasing and preserving francophone culture,” said Cox.  “The board of directors is dedicated to embracing that culture and celebrating it with all Manitobans, and I thank them for giving so much time and energy to the francophone community.”

New appointments to the CCFM are:

  • chairperson – Réal Curé (St-Pierre-Jolys), owner of Chez Mémère, a family-run catering and event-planning business specializing in French-Canadian cuisine.  He is an active organizer and volunteer with Festival du Voyageur, former owner of Rat River Golf Course, former mayor of St-Pierre-Jolys, former organizer of the St. Pierre Museum, as well as a founding member of the St. Pierre Economic Development Committee and the Chabille Economic Development Committee.
  • Michelle Freynet (Winnipeg), the former Manitoba representative for the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages.  She studied education at Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface and previously served as president of the Health and Safety Committee of the Department of Culture, Heritage and Tourism.
  • Alphonse Lawson-Héllu (Winnipeg), online banking specialist and past consultant to L’Amicale de la Francophonie multiculturelle du Manitoba (Manitoba Multicultural Francophone Immigrants Organization). He holds a bachelor of economics from Université de Lomé in Togo and has volunteered with organizations including Scouts Canada and as president of the Togolese Association of Manitoba.
  • Maurice Montreuil (Thompson), a certified teacher and Indigenous community development professional with Ecole Communautaire La Voie du Nord.  He recently completed a five-month teaching assignment on the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and has served with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce, Main Street Project Inc. and Native Book Source.

Returning appointments to the CCFM are:

  • vice-chair, Rénald Rémillard (Winnipeg);
  • Karine Beaudette (Winnipeg);
  • Michelle Gervais (Winnipeg); and
  • Nicole Matiation (Winnipeg).

The minister thanked outgoing board members for their service.
