UCN: Diploma in Practical Nursing Instructor Receives Wawatay Award
The University College of the North (UCN) annually awards a deserving UCN staff or faculty member who has made a difference and has gone above and beyond for UCN students.
UCN’s graduating class has the opportunity to submit nominations each year and the recipient of the Wawatay Award is announced at the annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow.
The recipient of the 2019 Wawatay Award was Cassandra Cowper, RN, UCN Diploma in Practical Nursing (DPN) Instructor who teaches in Flin Flon. Cassandra was nominated by Melanie Erickson, a DPN student. Melanie describes Cassandra as “one of the most selfless people she has ever met” and someone who “puts her full heart into every single day she shows up at school … she is a role model that every nursing student looks up to”.
Recipients of the Wawatay Award receive a plaque and a Star Blanket which is a gift of honor, respect and admiration. Those gifted with a Star Blanket are held in high esteem for their generosity and accomplishments.
“It is such an honor to be recognized among so many dedicated and passionate UCN faculty that work tirelessly to help students success. I will forever treasure my Star Blanket and the students I have had the privilege of teaching” said Cassandra Cowper RN.
The University College of the North congratulates Cassandra on being selected to receive the 2019 Wawatay Award and extends gratitude and appreciation for her good work.
