University College of the North Saddened by Death of Elder Don Robertson, Ph.D. (Hon.)
January 1, 2020
(The Pas, MB) – University College of the North (UCN) is deeply saddened by the news that Elder Don Robertson, Ph.D. (Hon.) passed away on December 27, 2019.
In 2003, Elder Robinson was appointed by the Government of Manitoba as the Chair of the UCN Implementation Team. That group led the establishment of UCN’s administrative and academic structure. Their work resulted in the tabling of Bill 20, the University College of the North Act, in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba on March 3, 2004.
“Many of us had the pleasure of working with Don over the years,” said Doug Lauvstad, UCN President and Vice‐Chancellor. “We will always remember fondly his commitment to UCN’s success, as well as his kindness and his quick wit. UCN has lost a great friend in Don and we offer our condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Largely in part due to Elder Robinson’s leadership and commitment, UCN was formally established as Manitoba’s newest degree‐granting institution in July 2004.
University College of the North provides learning opportunities to northern communities while respecting diverse Indigenous and northern values.
