(Thompson, MB) – The Friesen Historical Collection is a new special collection that is housed on the Thompson Campus. Distinguished Professor in Canadian history, Dr. Gerald Friesen of St. John’s College at the University of Manitoba donated the collection. Dr. Friesen is an expert on Western Canada, Manitoba, labour history and communication history. He has written extensively on Western Canadian History from a social history perspective.

The collection primarily contains books about history, politics, and Indigenous issues. The books can be used inside the Wellington and Madeline Spence Research Library, but may not be checked out.

A grand opening of the collection will take place on Wednesday, October 16th at 4 p.m. at the UCN Thompson library. Refreshments will be served.

University College of the North provides learning opportunities to northern communities while respecting diverse Indigenous and northern values.
