UWinnipeg: 2018 Bonny Castle Lecture on UniverCities.

by ahnationtalk on May 29, 201850 Views

The 2018 Bonnycastle Lecture Series presents a panel to discuss UniverCities: Higher Education and the New Management of Urban Districts, on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 6:00–7:30 pm, room 2M70, Manitoba Hall. Admission is free and it is open to the public.

Today colleges and universities are the dominant employers, real estate holders, policing agents, and educational and health care providers in major cities where they once played a less prominent role. The growing influence of higher education forces us to take a sober look at the rise and implications of what Davarian Baldwin has referred to as “UniverCities”. This panel will look at university-community relationships to examine the promise and pitfalls of higher education as a central, yet profoundly under-examined, manager of urban districts in today’s cities from New York, Chicago and Winnipeg.
