A joint venture to bring high speed internet to northern Manitoba took another step forward Wednesday when the Indigenous-owned company behind it announced two new companies as business partners.

Clear Sky Connections told a press conference in Winnipeg that software developer and “last mile link” service provider Broadband Communications North and infrastructure contractor Distinct Infrastructure Group (DIG) have teamed up with them to lay the foundation for the proposed high speed network.

Created a decade ago as an initiative of Manitoba’s First Nations chiefs, Clear Sky has since evolved, and while its board is made up of current chiefs, it is also now a for-profit incorporated company.
