The Position: Teachers in the Mature High School Program and General Studies Adult Education Program at the UCN Adult Learning Centre are responsible for delivering Manitoba certified secondary curriculum to adult learners in a holistic adult friendly and Indigenous-based learning environment. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting students in addressing barriers for success and supporting through community development activities. This position will primarily involve teaching adult basic education numeracy level upgrading and high school mathematics but may include other courses as required.


  • Bachelor of Education and Manitoba Professional Teaching Certificate Degree
  • Specialization in Mathematics or Sciences
  • Experience teaching high school Mathematics, Science and upgrading level courses
  • Must have demonstrated creative and culturally-relevant instructional practices within an Indigenous perspective
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and to practice appropriate education delivery methodology for achieving success with at-risk students
  • Effective management and organizational skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience in using current learning technology and current computer applications
  • Values diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and to respond to the cultural influences and needs specific to Indigenous adult learners in northern communities


  • Previous experience working within an adult literacy program or adult learning centre or directly with adult learners
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience, at the high school or adult education level
  • Direct experience with non-traditional, vulnerable students or communities
  • The ability to speak an Indigenous language

Conditions of Employment:

  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Candidates will be required to teach both day and evening classes
  • Candidates must provide an acceptable Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must complete a Certificate in Adult Education (CAE) within 5 years
