Position Summary |
Located in the beautiful Southern Interior of BC, the Thompson Cariboo region of Interior Health serves a population of approximately 185,000. This amazing region is made up of communities such as Kamloops, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Lillooet, Merritt and many other breathtaking communities. There are 54 First Nation communities and 16 Métis chartered communities who reside within the Interior Health region. Approximately 50 percent of our aboriginal population, which is over 26,000 people reside in the Thompson Cariboo.

With both regional and geographic responsibilities this position will support the Thompson Cariboo region and the worksite location may be located in Kamloops or Kelowna. Medical Health Officers (MHOs) are responsible for assessing, monitoring, and reporting on the health status of persons living in the Interior Health (IH) region. They are also responsible for administering various BC statutes and regulations relevant to protecting the health of the population. MHOs provide strategic and tactical support to senior leadership in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of public health programs both regionally and within each of our local health areas. They provide clinical consultation and advice to health professionals in both acute and community settings, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support healthy public policy. Reporting to the Chief MHO with oversight from the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), MHOs are designated by the Lieutenant Governor of BC under Order in Council. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Qualifications |
• Medical Degree (MD) with current (or eligible for) full registration and licensure to practice medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. • Fellowship in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences or equivalent post-graduate training. • Five (5) years of experience in progressively more complex and senior medical administrative or public health leadership roles • BC Driver’s License for travel as required within and between our geographically distributed communities SKILLS AND ABILITIES: |
