AMC Grand Chief Kyra Wilson Welcomes Inclusion in Manitoba’s U.S. Trade Council
February 3, 2025
Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg – The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is pleased to accept the invitation to join Manitoba’s U.S. Trade Council. As First Nations, we’re Treaty partners and key contributors to Manitoba’s economy. It is critical that our voices are included in discussions that will shape the province’s response to incoming U.S. tariffs.
“First Nations must be part of these conversations, not only as economic stakeholders but as rights holders with inherent jurisdiction over our lands and resources,” said Grand Chief Kyra Wilson. “We appreciate Premier Wab Kinew’s commitment to ensuring that First Nations are at the table and look forward to working alongside business, labour, and industry leaders to advocate for Manitoba’s interests.”
First Nations have long played a central role in Manitoba’s economy, from agriculture and forestry to trade and innovation. Ensuring that our perspectives and priorities are reflected in trade negotiations and economic strategies will benefit not only First Nations but all Manitobans.
The AMC remains committed to advancing First Nations’ economic sovereignty and ensuring that any policies impacting trade and industry reflect the rights, needs, and opportunities of our Nations.
