Canadian Centre for Child Protection and MTS Future First – Working together to increase the safety of youth in Manitoba
April 20, 2015
WINNIPEG, MB: For the past 14 years, MTS has been a leader in supporting the Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s efforts to protect children and youth in Manitoba. Today, we are proud to recognize the long-standing support of MTS as they reach the $1 million mark in contributing to the Canadian Centre’s Cybertip.ca program for the public to report their concerns about the online sexual exploitation of children.
“MTS played a significant role in helping us establish Cybertip.ca and continues to offer us critical support in its operation,” says Lianna McDonald, Executive Director of the Canadian Centre. “With MTS’s steadfast support along with our upcoming joint campaign regarding online safety, we will continue making significant strides to increase the personal safety of youth in Manitoba.”
In June, the Canadian Centre and MTS are proud to be launching a new safety campaign in MTS Connect locations across the province. With the purchase of an MTS smartphone, parents of teenagers will receive a free educational kit to assist them in understanding the potential risks their child may face when connecting online and corresponding strategies for increasing their personal safety.
“Investing in Manitoba youth is the key mandate of MTS Future First and we are excited to be working together with the Canadian Centre for Child Protection to provide this important message to parents about online safety,” said Jay Forbes, Chief Executive Officer, MTS Allstream. “We have always valued and supported the critical work the Centre does to safeguard our children and are pleased our partnership continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our community.”
