IAM – Our Safe Space
Exciting News from Inuit Association of Manitoba (IAM)!
We are very excited to announce that we will begin construction on Our Safe Space, ᑲᒻᒪᒋᔭᐅᓯᐊᓪᓛᒃᐳᓯ, Inuit Women and Children’s Violence Shelter and an Inuit Women and Children’s Transitional Housing facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba this Spring 2025!
The Inuit Women and Children’s Violence Shelter will offer 15 beds in private spaces designed for individuals and families. The Violence Shelter will offer a gathering space, child play area with green space, on-site support services and shared kitchen facilities.
The Inuit Women and Children’s Transitional Housing will offer 12 modern units with 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms and on-site Day Care Space with green space and on-site support services.
“We have thoughtfully considered the floor plans and designs of the interiors and exteriors of the buildings to ensure they provide a safe and welcoming space.” Karen Joy, Acting Director of Programs and Services.
Lead by IQ Principles, IAM, will support Inuit Women and their children fleeing violence as well as offering them opportunity to have access to transitional housing, “This has truly been a work in progress for over 2 years and to now see it become a reality is surreal to be honest. We are truly overwhelmed with gratitude and look forward to opening the doors and offering IAM’s wrap around services with resources in culturally safe space.” Nastania Mullin, CEO, expressed today.

ᑲᒻᒪᒋᔭᐅᓯᐊᓪᓛᒃᐳᓯ, Our Safe Space, Inuit Women and Children’s Violence Shelter and Transition Housing, is expected to start construction this Spring 2025 and be completed by Spring 2026.
