The Manitoba government is inviting organizations to apply to the From the Ground Up and Urban/Hometown Green Team programs, two community development grant programs that support youth employment, local capacity building and economic development, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.

“Our government is committed to supporting communities across Manitoba by investing in programs that create opportunities for youth and strengthen local municipalities,” said Simard. “These grants help foster economic development, build leadership skills and enhance quality of life in communities of all sizes. I encourage eligible organizations to apply and take advantage of these important programs.”

The Urban/Hometown Green Team program supports youth aged 15 to 29 with employment opportunities on community projects between May and September. Eligible applicants for the 2026 intake include:

  • municipal governments, other than the City of Winnipeg;
  • Northern Affairs community councils; and
  • non-profit organizations throughout Manitoba.

This long-standing program helps provide full-time seasonal employment opportunities for youth that build leadership and employment skills, while responding to community needs and partnerships in urban and rural communities.

The From The Ground Up program supports a broad range of community development projects, including community and economic development, well-being and recreation, as well as housing and safety co-ordination supports. Eligible applicants for the 2026 applicant intake include:

  • municipal governments (including local authorities such as planning and recreation districts);
  • Northern Affairs community councils; and
  • non-profit organizations throughout Manitoba.

The application deadline for both programs is Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. For more information about the programs and how to apply, visit: https://gov.mb.ca/grants.
