Only a couple of weeks after a clash with Manitoba’s finance minister, Manitoba Hydro president and CEO Jay Grewel is no longer with the crown corporation.
Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board chair Ben Graham said that Hal Turner, the utility’s current vice-president of asset planning & delivery, will act as interim president and CEO effective immediately. Turner joined Manitoba Hydro in 1995.
In late January Grewal
told the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce the province could need new energy generation as early as 2029 and that Hydro would reach out to independent producers as well as look for ways to encourage people to curb consumption.
The NDP government made it clear they didn’t support those ideas.
“As it relates to the development of new energy resources, we want those to be publicly generated,” Manitoba Finance Minister Adrien Sala said.
