CARBERRY, Man. _ A man is dead after a fight in a motel parking lot in western Manitoba.
RCMP say officers were called to the Carberry Motor Inn late Wednesday evening, where they found the seriously injured male who died in hospital.
Police have not released his name, but the owner of a contracting company the man worked for has identified him as Garnet Baptiste, a 26-year-old resident of the Ebb and Flow First Nation.
The company owner, Bob Martin, says Baptiste and a co-worker got into a confrontation with three other men and that a weapon was involved.
He says the co-worker suffered injuries to his head and collarbone.
Mounties are reported to have two men in custody in Brandon.
Martin said Baptiste had worked with his company off and on over the past decade. Baptiste started back with Martin this week, working to clean up and prepare equipment following a job near Pilot Mound, Man.
“He was excellent. A really good guy. Pretty happy-go-lucky guy,” said Martin.
Mounties had the parking lot cordoned off on Thursday and used a drone to take photos of the scene.
At least one of the accused was employed by a restoration company currently working in Carberry. (Brandon Sun)
