As you drive down 5th Street SE, a new sign on the side of Red River College Polytech may catch your eye.
The college was contacted by the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) asking if they would want to put up a sign welcoming the community in Indigenous languages and recognizing that the land we are on is Treaty One, according to Campus Manager Guy Moffat.
“First of all, to partner with Portage Community Revitalization Corporation is something we do regularly. And having a great big welcome sign on the building was a great opportunity.”
Moffat says that the commitment toward truth, reconciliation, and equality is something that the college takes seriously.
“We work hard to make sure that we are, in consultation with First Nations communities and indigenous people to make sure that the programming that we’re offering is meeting the needs of those communities.”
