Shamattawa RCMP investigate officer-involved shooting

Today at approximately 1:00 pm, Shamattawa RCMP responded to a report of an armed male within the community. The report indicated that the male was walking on a road and was carrying a firearm.
Officers immediately began patrolling the area. During their patrols, they heard several shots being fired. Officers headed towards the direction of the gunshots and located the suspect outside of a residence. An interaction occurred between the suspect and officers which resulted in shots being fired.
The suspect, a 22-year-old male from the community, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the nursing station.
No officers were physically injured.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified.
RCMP Major Crime Services along with Shamattawa RCMP, continue to investigate.
