Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) has declared a state of emergency after a severe storm brought about 30 centimetres of snow to the community.
In a Tuesday news release, the community said much of NCN has been without power since Saturday at 1:10 a.m. due to the storm. It added this outage has left several homes without heat, prompting the evacuation of elders and other vulnerable residents.
The community is working with Manitoba Hydro to get the latest updates and restore power as soon as possible. NCN has also contacted Indigenous Services Canada for emergency assistance and is currently in the process of securing more generators.
