Wildfires in Peguis First Nation have destroyed one home and forced hundreds of people to evacuate.
According to a wildfire update from the First Nation, a state of emergency was declared on Sunday at 4 p.m. as wildfires continued to threaten the community about 180 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
It notes emergency crews evacuated about 350 people, with some residents going to Selkirk and others to Winnipeg.
The First Nation adds that one home was lost in the fire, as well as several garages and outbuildings. Damage assessments are currently underway.
