The North West Company Welcomes the Independent Review of the Nutrition North Canada Program

Winnipeg, February 27, 2025 – The North West Company LP (North West) welcomes the recent announcement from Minister Gary Anandasangaree that the Government of Canada is appointing Aluki Kotierk as the Minister’s Special Representative to conduct an external review of Nutrition North Canada (NNC).

North West has always supported external audits and independent reviews of the program to ensure it is effectively serving northern communities. We look forward to working with Ms. Kotierk in her capacity as the Minister’s Special Representative and contributing to this important review process.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and program improvement, North West regularly participates in NNC program audits, reviews and studies.

Our primary commitment is to provide savings and better access to essential goods and services for the communities we serve. We recognize NNC as an important program to help us meet that commitment but believe that it is not sufficient on its own to address the broader structural issues driving high prices in the first place, including the historic lack of investment into critical northern infrastructure. We remain dedicated to working collaboratively with governments, communities and Indigenous leadership to address northern affordability challenges.
