Dakota Tipi First Nation is excited to continue its first of hopefully many projects around the Portage la Prairie area. An $18 million housing development is in progress on Saskatchewan Avenue in the city. On Friday, September 20, 2024, an official meeting took place onsite with provincial, city, and Dakota Tipi representatives to mark the effort. Since then, construction has been well underway.
Progress on the housing development
Chief Dennis Pashe provides an update on the progress.
“They’re slowly getting close to completing the groundwork and foundations, and so forth. And I think they’ll start building—adding the walls—pretty soon,” notes Pashe. “The walls have been pre-constructed just outside of Winnipeg, so it should go up fairly fast. We’re hoping to have it all completed by the fall of this year.”
